About

Built by a team that lives in Basecamp.

Assistant is a small, self-funded product. We build what we need, ship often, and stay close to our customers.

Asad, founder of Assistant for Basecamp

The origin

Like every Basecamp user, we loved how simple it is. But we kept hitting the same walls: no Kanban view, no way to tag things, no custom statuses or fields. We hacked around each limitation with naming conventions, emoji in titles, and spreadsheets on the side, and it never quite worked.

After the fifth time we tried to build a quick Chrome extension "just for our own team," we stopped hacking and built Assistant properly. It's the product we wished existed: a layer on top of Basecamp that adds what's missing without fighting how Basecamp works.

How we work

  • Ship small, ship often. We release every few weeks rather than big-bang quarters. The changelog is the proof.
  • Customer email is the roadmap. Every feature we ship started as a customer email. Reply to any of our emails and it goes to a human.
  • Don't break Basecamp. The extension adds UI; it never hides or replaces anything Basecamp already does. Uninstall and everything goes back to normal.
  • Your data is yours. We store the minimum we need. See the privacy policy for the full list. No tracking pixels, no ad networks, no data sales.

Not affiliated with 37signals

Basecamp is built by 37signals, an independent company we have nothing but respect for. Assistant is a third-party extension that uses Basecamp's public API under their Terms of Service. We're not funded by, endorsed by, or connected to 37signals.
